Indonesia, October 14, 2025 — Blue Alliance, one of the leading environmental organisations working to maintain and strengthen marine protected areas and blue economy across the globe, proudly announces its second reef-positive tourism investment through its ecotourism division, BlueWild EcoVentures. This initiative introduces a sustainable liveaboard cruise company designed to fund marine protection and connect travellers to Indonesia’s rich ocean heritage.
This investment is part of the Blue Finance impact loan facility, launched at COP16 in 2024 with initial commitments from BNP Paribas. The facility provides patient capital to reef-positive businesses with performance-linked returns based on environmental and social outcomes. It is designed for investors seeking long-term impact in marine biodiversity, climate resilience, and livelihoods.
BlueWild liveaboard company is committed to:
- Championing low-impact, carbon-neutral tourism practices,
- Ensuring the lightest possible footprint while maximising conservation outcomes; and
- Educating, inspiring and building lasting connections between travellers and the marine world, fostering deeper understanding and long-term stewardship.
The liveaboard vessel: the ‘Bajau’
The liveaboard vessel, the ‘Bajau’ is a 4-cabin vessel owned by BlueWild EcoVentures. The vessel can accommodate 8-12 guests, and it features solar power, natural ventilation, water makers, plastic-free practices, and locally sourced supplies. Minimising its climate footprint has been a priority from construction to operation. Cruises run for 180 days annually, targeting 220 guests per year. By offering immersive, small-group experiences, it appeals to a broader audience, especially travellers seeking comfort, accessibility, and meaningful connection with marine ecosystems.
The vessel is operated by the company Nomad Archipelago, offering slow travel snorkelling cruises since 2023.
Strategic Marketing and Local Engagement
BlueWild EcoVentures leads international promotion, supporting Nomad Archipelago with digital marketing, trade show representation, and partnerships with destination management companies.
Tourism Growth
Indonesia welcomed 13.9 million international visitors in 2024, including 388,000 liveaboard passengers and over 1.1 million divers. The liveaboard industry is booming, driven by global interest in destinations like Raja Ampat, Komodo, and the Banda Sea. Nomad Archipelago taps into this momentum with a differentiated offering that aligns with rising demand for low-impact, regenerative travel experiences.
With further potential to expand into the Philippines and Zanzibar, Nomad Archipelago is poised to become a leading force in ocean-positive tourism across the Indo-Pacific.
Positive Impact
BlueWild EcoVentures delivers both environmental and social benefits with its sustainable code of conduct promoting low-impact travel practices, helping to reduce overcrowding, anchor damage, and other pressures on sensitive marine habitats.
The reef-positive business also contributes to marine conservation awareness through educational engagement with scholars, residents, and visitors, deepening understanding of coral reef ecosystems and the importance of their protection.
In addition, the program supports citizen science efforts, enabling guests and local partners to participate in monitoring reef health and reporting illegal activities, thereby strengthening data collection and enforcement within Marine Protected Areas.
